Ian Watson
Chairman and Managing Director

In 1974 Ian Watson began his career at Burns Fry, an investment banking and brokerage firm in Canada, which is now BMO Nesbitt Burns, one of Canada's largest investment banking firms.

Mr. Watson became one of the senior partners in Burns Fry. In 1980, when he resigned, he was in charge of the firm's European business.

In 1981, Mr. Watson became a consultant to American Barrick, now Barrick Gold Corporation, and worked with the company during the time it made the transition from an oil and gas company to a gold mining company.

In 1982, he was one of the founders of Centennial Minerals Ltd. and was its Chairman until 1985. Centennial Minerals Ltd was a public gold mining company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Centennial Minerals Ltd's strategy was to identify prospective large-scale gold mining projects after substantial exploration work had been completed and conduct further development work leading to mining operations. Three years after it started, Centennial's success was reflected in a friendly, recommended take-over by Pegasus Gold PLC.

From 1988 until 2000, Mr. Watson has also helped to create and develop a number of telecommunications companies.
