Gold Charms FAQs

How does the karat classification system for gold work?

All gold items are given a karat value that is used to explain the purity of the gold within the item.  Because gold is malleable in its purist form it must be mixed with other metals, such as copper, to make it strong enough for use.  The purest form of gold that is available today is classified as 24 karat gold.  It has anywhere from 99.0%-99.9% pure gold, and the remaining percentage is usually copper.  The lower the karat the lower the purity of the gold in the item; thus 18 karat gold is far less pure then 24 karat.  However, this is not always bad, usually the lower the karat the less expensive the piece will be.  Additionally other metals included in gold make it stronger and more durable.

What is an Italian charm bracelet?

Rather than having dangling charms that are beaded or clipped onto a bracelet, Italian charms are designed with links that interlock with one another, creating the actual bracelet. The links that make the bracelet also act as the charms of the bracelet.   The links have objects engraved or printed on the side of the link that is visible when the bracelet is worn.  This allows wearers to purchase an array of charms and easily interchange them.  Not all links have to have objects engraved on them, plain charms are available.  This allows users to have as many or as few actual charms on a bracelet as desired.  A typical Italian charm bracelet is made of 18-24 links.  It is extremely easy to add and remove links from one another with their interlocking design.

What are some tips to purchasing the overall best gold.

First you should determine the quality of the gold.  Lower karat gold means that there are higher percentages of other metals mixed in with the actual gold. The more gold, the higher priced the item becomes.  However, the more gold the higher the value the item will hold as time passes.  Second, look for a trademark symbol that is etched into the inside area of most gold pieces.  This authenticates the manufacturer as well as often identifies the country in which the bracelet was manufactured.  Lastly, choose the highest karat of gold you can afford. The absolute best investment you can make is a piece of jewelry that is made with the purest gold available. It is often, durable, non-allergenic, and will gain in value over time. You will enjoy your selection for a lifetime if you choose a bracelet made with the best materials. Overall, be sure to ask plenty of questions and check the guarantees as well. If you use these simple tips when searching for the perfect bracelet, you will be certain that you have purchased the best gold bracelet available.
